90s Rock & Grunge: The Sound That Changed Youth Culture

Learners continue their journey into the sound, culture, and ideas behind alternative rock and grunge music from the late 1980s and early 1990s. Explore music more deeply by investigating how artists create sound, how lyrics communicate meaning, how media and youth culture influence each other, and how music can reflect identity, emotion, and social change. Examine how grunge and alternative rock became important to many young people and why this music still influences artists, fashion, and culture today.

This Curiosity Collection extends the 90s Rock & Grunge Snapshot by moving to a deeper investigation of music, culture, identity, and creative industries.

Learners explore how music is created, how it reflects the time it was made, and how it can influence the way people think, dress, and express themselves. They listen to music, analyse lyrics, compare artists, examine youth culture, and investigate real careers connected to the creative world.

The collection is designed using inclusive learning principles, supporting diverse learning needs through self-paced exploration, clear instructions, flexible activity options, visual supports, and multiple ways for Pathfinders to engage, create, build, and reflect.

A Curiosity Collection includes multiple Pathfinder activities completed over several sessions.

Each activity introduces new ideas through exploration, investigation, and creative design, leading to a final project where Pathfinders combine what they have learned.
